Parolee Arrested After Chase Ends With Crash In Culver City
GARDENA (CBS) — A parolee was arrested after leading Gardena police on a pursuit into the Culver City area and colliding with a patrol car.
The chase began about 9:30 a.m., when the suspect tried to run over a deputy in Compton, Gardena police Lt. Steve Prendergast said. Gardena officers saw a car matching the description of the suspect in Gardena and began chasing it.
The high-speed chase went into Gardena, Hawthorne and Inglewood, then onto the northbound 405 Freeway, at speeds of more than 80 mph. At times the suspect drove on the wrong side of the street and the vehicle nearly collided with other cars.
The suspect exited the freeway on Slauson Avenue in Culver City, where he crashed just before 10 a.m., east of the San Diego (405) Freeway.
No deputies were injured in the initial assault, but one Gardena officer received minor injuries at the end of the pursuit. The officer was taken to a hospital, as was the suspect.
