Inmate Stabbed, 3 More Hurt In Reported Fight At Men's Central Jail
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Paramedics were sent to the Men's Central Jail complex in downtown Los Angeles in response to an inmate disturbance, fire officials said Wednesday.
The disturbance occurred around 12:30 p.m. at the jail located at 441 E. Bauchet St., according to Sheriff's Deputy Ryan Rouzan.
Some 80 inmates were involved in the "inmate vs. inmate disturbance", which was broken up by guards in about 10 minutes, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
It was not immediately known what precipitated the fight.
The jail was placed on lockdown, along with the adjacent Twin Towers jail.
Fire officials later said 10 patients were being evaluated, but at least two were seen being transported by paramedics. None of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening, according to officials.
A triage area was seen set up outside the jail facilities.
Thousands of prisoners are housed at the huge multi-story facility.
