Padres Shut Out Dodgers 6-0
LOS ANGELES (CBS 2/AP) -Clayton Richard pitched his first shutout and complete game, Ryan Ludwick drove in four runs and the San Diego Padres defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-0 on Tuesday night to remain a half-game behind the NL West-leading San Francisco Giants.
The Giants' 1-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs officially eliminated the Dodgers from playoff contention. Los Angeles has lost six of its last eight games.
Colorado fell 2 1/2 games behind the Giants in the division with a 3-1 loss at Arizona.
The Padres moved within a game of Atlanta in the wild-card race. They've won eight of the last 10 games with the Dodgers, and five in a row.
Richard (13-8) allowed eight hits, struck out six and walked two in his 65th career start.
At least there was a silver lining – President and General Manager of CBS 2 and KCAL 9 Steve Mauldin threw out the first pitch.
But first he got a little advice from Dodgers' great, Steve Garvey.
"First of all, a few 'Our Fathers' and 'Hail Marys' because your reputation kind of hinges on this," Garvey joked.
Mauldin, who was a star player at Baylor University, did an amazing job!
