Owners Of Flood-Damaged Vehicles At UCLA Get First Look
WESTWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Owners of 400 flood-damaged vehicles at UCLA Tuesday got access to their cars for the first time in a week.
The vehicles were damaged July 29 after a water main broke under Sunset Boulevard and spilled approximately 20 million gallons of water onto the campus and filled two parking garages.
Owners are able to look at their cars from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout this week at the Jackie Robinson Stadium parking lot, 100 Constitution Ave., in Westwood.
"I'm one of those people who get attached to objects, so I had a lot of attachments to this car," one UCLA graduate student said. "It feels terrible, I don't have anything else to say."
Insurance adjusters are also on site to evaluate the vehicles.
"We'll look at the cars, I mean, frankly, a lot of these cars are going to be total losses," AAA's Jeff Spring said. "If they're not, we'll send them to our damage assesment center in Los Angeles, and assess what the value is, and we'll work out an agree-upon value with the member, and we'll cut them a check, basically."
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power has tentatively assumed responsibility for at least some of the damage.

"I've had about a week to digest everything, so I'm probably smiling right now, but what can you do," UCLA staff member Henry Chang said.
