Overnight Work To Shut Down Pacific Coast Highway Lanes
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Overnight work on a wastewater pipe project will shut down up to two southbound lanes along Pacific Coast Highway all week.
The Coastal Interceptor Relief Sewer system is aimed and cutting down on the amount of pollutant-carrying stormwater reaching the ocean. The work on the project will affect southbound traffic along PCH intermittently through the end of next year, according to the Department of Public Works.
Work will begin at the south end of the project, near the Annenberg Community Beach House and will extend northward to just south of Temescal Canyon Road.
Starting Monday, workers will close up to two southbound lanes along the coastal highway between Entrada Drive and the Annenberg Community Beach House between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. until Friday. One southbound lane will remain open at all times and the work is not expected to impact northbound traffic. All traffic lanes will be reopened in time for morning rush hour.
Regular work hours are 7 a.m. through 4 p.m.; and 9 p.m. through 5 a.m., Mondays through Fridays and some Saturdays.
At least two southbound traffic lanes will remain open during daytime work, and at least one lane at night. Other construction impacts include "dust, noise, loss of beach parking during the non-summer months, and a detour option for cyclists," the DPW reported.
PCH users are encouraged to consider alternate routes. Project updates are available by subscribing to @PCHPartners on Twitter.
