Original June Date To Carmageddon II Delayed As Late As September
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The sequel to last summer's Carmageddon has been delayed, possibly until September.
A variety of issues have delayed the original plans for a June 405 Freeway shutdown to take down the north side of the Mulholland Bridge. The demolition of the bridge's south side was the reason for the major public safety campaign, dubbed "Carmageddon," to keep drivers off the freeways during a July weekend last year.
The bridge has to be widened so Caltrans can add a 10-mile northbound carpool lane can be added between the Santa Monica (10) and Ventura (101) freeways.
Having lived through the first Carmageddon, drivers are not as concerned about the next installment.
"I remember when the first one happened, people were panicking a little bit, but then once it happened, and we realized that everybody was just going to stay home, it was fine – there was no panic at all," a man named Luke told KNX 1070's Pete Demetriou.

Officials initially scheduled June date for the north side's demolition, but that work is being pushed to August or September.
Some of the reasons for the delay include a $300 million lawsuit, communication concerns from the FBI and unexpected utility work.
