Only On 9: 7-Eleven Clerk Whose Husband Was Fatally Stabbed By Homeless Man Speaks Out

VALLEY VILLAGE (CBSLA.com)  —  The 7-Eleven clerk whose husband was fatally stabbed by a homeless man last Friday in Valley Village spoke out tonight -- the same day she was able to leave the hospital recovering from her own stab wounds and the day she buried her husband of several months.

It's a story that is Only On 9.

Delmy "Paulina" Lopez spoke to KCAL9's Erica Nochlin by phone as she recuperates at her mother's house.

Lopez and Washi Ahmed were married his past November.

She and Ahmed chased a homeless man out of the store last week after he allegedly stole a hot dog and beer. The man turned on them with a knife.

Her stabbing and Ahmed's murder were caught on surveillance video.

"I still cant believe it, you know," Lopez said, "I close my eyes and I see him. So many memories."

She was stabbed in the stomach, back and both arms. Ahmed, trying to protect her, was stabbed in the neck.

"I ask myself why did I do it, you know?," Lopez says.

Friday morning she buried Ahmed as their friends and family -- and even customers who loved the pair -- looked on.

He had two children from a previous marriage. Neighbors told Nochlin he was like a father to their kids as well.

"This is a very sad day for me, you know, since last Friday," said Nazim Mahamud, Ahmed's friend and neighbor.

Cards, flowers, candles and balloons adorn the front of the 7-Eleven -- even a week later from the fatal stabbing. That show of support is helping her heal, she told Nochlin.

"He was a good man, he was a hard-worker, he gave everything to 7-Eleven, you know," said Lopez.

She added, "I will always love him."
