Police Officers Shoot, Kill Man Armed With Knife In Rialto
RIALTO (CBSLA) — Officers with the Rialto Police Department shot and killed a man allegedly armed with a knife whose hands were covered in blood Sunday.
It happened around 1:10 p.m. at a Chevron station on Riverside Avenue and Valley Boulevard. Officers received multiple 9-1-1 calls that the suspect entered the store and employees and customers were hiding for safety. When officers arrived on the scene, the man was armed with a knife, police said.
The suspect exited the store and charged at officers with a large bloody knife, at which time officers opened fire, striking the suspect, RPD said.
Officers immediately gave medical aid to the suspect but he died on the scene.
The gas station employees and customers were unharmed and there were no other injuries.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department and District Attorney's Office responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The Rialto Police Department is conducting an administrative investigation.
The officers' names are not being released at this time by the department.
The suspect's name is being withheld pending notification of his family.
