Officials: Storm Could Trigger 'Potential Landslide' In San Pedro
LONG BEACH (CBS) — Heavy rains left a San Pedro hillside at risk of collapse on Wednesday as public works officials warned of a "potential landslide' in the area.
The stretch of road on Paseo Del Mar Road between Weymouth and Western avenues has been closed for nearly a week as Los Angeles city and county engineers continue to monitor the situation, according to Richard Lee of the Los Angeles Department of Public Works.
No homes are threatened, Lee said.
Ground movement has created sinkholes along the north end of Paseo Del Mar Road since last month, a trend that has left local residents and drivers worried about an even bigger collapse.
The nearby White Point Nature Preserve and White Point County Beach remain open, but the bathrooms are closed.
A multi-agency effort involving city and county units is underway as crews reroute affected storm drains, sewer lines, water lines, and utilities in the affected area.
