Officials Investigate What Caused Small Plane To Make Emergency Landing In OC

IRVINE (CBSLA.com) — Authorities continued their investigation on Sunday into the circumstances surrounding a small plane that made an emergency landing yesterday morning.

According to the Orange County Fire Department, a man and woman were sight seeing on board an Evektor Sport Star plane, when the pilot declared an inflight emergency.

Around 10:00 a.m. Saturday, officials were notified the plane started having mechanical trouble.

Police said the plane took off from John Wayne Airport, however was unable to make it back. The pilot began to scout a safe place to land the plane

Around 10:15 a.m., the pilot successfully landed on a runway located at the old El Toro Marine Base at The Great Park in Irvine.

According to police, the pilot was able to land without damaging the plane, or anything on the ground. No injuries were reported.

"Like all emergency landings, the FAA and NTSB will investigate," explained OCFA Captain Steve Concialdi.
