Officials Believe Missing 11-Month-Old Taken By His Parents To Mexico

LOS ANGELES (CBS) —  Officials believe a missing 11-month-old child may have been taken to Mexico where they believe his parents have fled.

Yajaira Contreras and Nahun Martinez, parents of Yahir Martinez, were supposed to appear in court Oct. 18 regarding the custody of the boy, but the parents never showed, said Officer Karen Rayner of the Los Angeles Police Department.

"Contreras and Martinez failed to appear for the court hearing and the judge awarded custody of Yahir to the Department of Children and Family Services," Rayner said. "When DCFS went to the home to take custody of the
child, they discovered the entire family had fled to Mexico."

Rayner said the three had not been seen at their home since Oct. 13.

Police urged anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Yahir,
Yajaira or Nahum to contact the Department of Children and Family Services at (818) 717-4046 or West Valley Juvenile detectives at (818) 374-7730.
