Officers Arrest Man Following Seven-Hour Standoff At Home In West Covina

WEST COVINA (CBSLA.com) — Police arrested a man on Thursday who barricaded himself inside of a home in West Covina.

Shortly after 2 a.m., officers were sent to the 1400 block of Rowland Avenue at North Lark Ellen Avenue for report of a barricade situation, according to the West Covina Police Department.

Upon their arrival, authorities located a man who had barricaded himself inside of the home with two children.

A SWAT team was called to assist at the scene.

Several canisters of tear gas were fired into the home before authorities entered and arrested the man who was unarmed.

Paramedics transported him to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The children safely exited the home uninjured and were reunited with their mother.

A preliminary investigation revealed the incident started as a domestic violence call that took place at the DMV before the suspect returned home and made threats to harm his family.

During the standoff, the westbound lanes of Rowland remained closed between Leaf and Lark Ellen.

Several homes in the area were evacuated as a precaution.
