The Ocean View Little League team arrived at Los Angeles International Airport shortly after 7 p.m. They immediately headed to the Little League fields in Huntington Beach for a homecoming celebration with league members, family and fans.
"This is a big deal for us," said J.P. Londono of Lake Elsinore as he waited for the team's arrival at the airport. He said he attended nearly all the games his 13-year-old nephew Christian Catano played in this past season.
"Japan had an excellent team, they deserved to be in the championship game but thank God we did it," Londono said.
The city of Huntington Beach planned to honor the team with an official parade on Saturday.
The team returned the World Series title to the United States with Sunday's victory. A U.S. team has won six of the past seven World Series, with Japan's win last year the exception.
