OC Student Allegedly Stabbed By Italian Soccer Fans In Rome
ORANGE (CBSLA.com) — A 20-year-old Orange County student studying abroad in Italy was attacked Thursday during a brawl over a soccer game.
Nicko Burnett, who graduated from Orange Lutheran High School in 2010, said he was beaten and stabbed by a group of Italian soccer fans before a game at a pub in Rome.
His mother told KCAL9's Stacey Butler via phone that an angry mob barged into the pub where her son sat with his friends and attacked people with baseball bats and knives.
She said a man chased Burnett outside and stabbed him in the back.
The knife scraped the student's lung.
Burnett is in good condition at a hospital in Rome.
Two suspects were arrested in connection to the incident.
Burnett is expected to come back to the U.S. on Dec. 11.
