OC Plastic Surgeon Agrees To Probation After Deadly Vaginal Procedure
ANAHEIM (AP) — An Orange County plastic surgeon accused of mishandling a procedure that left a 39-year-old woman dead has agreed to accept 35 months of probation.
California Medical Board documents show that Dr. Lawrence Hansen agreed to settle accusations of negligence in the vaginal reconstruction on Maria Garcia.
The board said Hansen failed to check on Garcia's medical history or perform an exam before the March 2008 surgery at Hills Surgical Institute in Anaheim Hills. At the time, it was an unaccredited outpatient center.
Garcia bled during the procedure, then underwent liposuction by a different doctor. Afterward, the mother of five suffered a heart attack and died.
Two other doctors affiliated with the surgery center have surrendered their medical licenses.
