OC Officials Unhappy About 'Hangover 3' Filming
COSTA MESA (CBSLA.com) — Orange County officials are unhappy that filming for the third installment of the "Hangover" franchise will shut down parts of a major freeway in the area starting Saturday.
The 73 Highway in Costa Mesa between the 405 and Jamboree Road will be off-limits to drivers during the weekend film shoot.
City councilman Steve Mensinger said, "The entire area will be vacant of cars. This is a major arterial for South Coast Plaza, and it's going to be devoid of cars."
Mensinger said the city wasn't even informed by Caltrans that the road closure was because of filming for "Hangover 3".
He claims the transportation department initially said the restrictions were for road improvements.
"I think they were less than transparent," Mensinger said.
Gloria Roberts from Caltrans said the city was never told the freeway shutdown was for road work.
"Those that were involved in the meetings have known it was for commercial filming," she said. "We've consistently been working with the cities, since June and July, and they've been fully aware."
