OC Man Sentenced To 21 Years For Kidnapping Homeowner
SANTA ANA (AP) — A 50-year-old man from Orange County has been sentenced to more than 21 years in prison for kidnapping a homeowner in 2002 and holding him bound, gagged and blindfolded for two weeks.
The district attorney said in a statement that Kamaruddin Shamsi, of Placentia, was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to the kidnapping and other crimes, including robbery and marijuana cultivation.
Prosecutors say Shamsi masterminded the kidnapping of the homeowner, identified only as Sohiel D., who had hired Shamsi's brother to work on his house.
Shamsi enlisted contractors from the project to help him kidnap the victim and hold him at the home and two motels before asking for a $10,000 ransom.
They were arrested when meeting the victim's girlfriend to collect.
Five co-defendants had already pleaded guilty.
