OC Man Charged With Killing His Mom's Houseguest
SANTA ANA (CBS) — A 27-year-old Santa Ana man has been charged in the murder of his mother's houseguest.
Saul Jose Salazar is charged with killing 33-year-old Antonio Verdugo-Cabrera, according to the Orange County District Attorney's Office.
Verdugo-Cabrera, a family friend, was staying in the woman's apartment in the 2100 block of South Fairview Avenue.
Salazar had been served with a restraining order, prohibiting him from going near his mother "based on prior violence toward her," according to the District Attorney's Office. Salazar violated the order twice in the three days before the slaying, according to prosecutors.
Salazar allegedly stabbed Verdugo-Cabrera in the chest at 11 p.m. Sunday in front of his mother's apartment, according to the District Attorney's Office.
Salazar fled, but eventually returned to the apartment and surrendered, handing over the knife he allegedly used, according to the District Attorney's Office.
Salazar faces up to 26 years to life in prison. He was expected to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon. Prosecutors intend to ask for $1 million bail.
