KNX 1070's Mike Landa Reports

Raul Barrientos faces one felony count each of kidnapping to commit a sexual offense, forcible rape, rape of an incompetent person, forcible oral copulation and oral copulation of an incompetent person, and four felony counts of sexual penetration by a foreign object by force, Deputy District Attorney Mark Birney said.

Barrientos, who faces a sentence-enhancing allegation of kidnapping likely to cause serious harm, was arrested when another student called security to report that a suspicious man was following her on campus, Birney said.

He is accused of taking the 19-year-old victim -- who is at the developmental level of a 5- to 6-year-old child, wears leg braces on both legs and has a speech impairment -- into a men's room stall, where he allegedly raped her, Birney said.

A teacher later found the victim in the bathroom stall, but it was unclear how long she had been there, Birney said.

The victim was menstruating at the time of the attack, "so there was quite a bit of blood on the suspect, at the crime scene and on the victim," the prosecutor said.

Investigators are concerned there may be other victims, Birney said.

Barrientos, who is being held on $1 million bail, is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday. He faces up to 150 years to life in prison if convicted, Birney said.
