OC Doctor Sentenced To 11 Years In Prison For Illegally Prescribing Drugs At Starbucks
SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — An Orange County doctor has been sentenced to more than 11 years in federal prison for illegally prescribing drugs to patients at Starbucks locations.
Forty-four-year-old Alvin Mingczech Yee, of Mission Viejo, was sentenced to 135 months in prison after pleading guilty to seven counts of illegal distribution of a controlled substance by a practitioner, according to the U.S.
Attorney's Office.
Yee was accused of prescribing drugs such as oxycodone and alprazolam after undercover agents posed as patients while meeting the physician at the popular coffee chain.
Prosecutors said his actions "contributed to the deaths of two of his patients," according to a sentencing memorandum.
Prosecutors had recommended 121 months in prison after striking a plea deal with Yee.
U.S. District Judge Andrew Guilford handed out the sentence Thursday.
