Obama To Host Jordanian King At Sunnylands Estate
PALM SPRINGS (AP/CBSLA.com) — President Barack Obama will host King Abdullah II of Jordan for talks in Southern California next month, according to reports.
The White House says the Feb. 14 meeting will take place at the Sunnylands estate near Palm Springs, the Associated Press reported.
Obama and Abdullah will discuss "opportunities to strengthen the U.S.-Jordan strategic partnership and how to advance our political, economic and security cooperation" as well as Middle East peace and Syria, according to a White House statement.
Last June, Obama used the 200-acre estate dubbed the "Camp David of the West" for two days of talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping (shee jihn-peeng).
Abdullah hosted Obama last year during the president's trip to the Middle East. The two leaders have worked together closely on several regional issues, including the civil war in Syria which has created a refugee crisis in neighboring Jordan, according to the Associated Press.
Officials in Jordan say Abdullah will also visit Washington during his trip to the U.S. for meetings with congressional leaders and religious groups.
