Obama: Oil Stopped, But Gulf Job Is Far From Done
PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (AP)— President Barack Obama says the oil may have stopped flowing into the Gulf of Mexico, but the government's job in tackling the environmental disaster is far from done.
Obama brought his family to the Florida Panhandle for the weekend and met with local officials and business owners on Saturday.
He made a pitch for tourists to visit the area. He said that because of the cleanup efforts, Gulf Coast beaches are clean, safe and open for business.
The president said it's his job to make sure the government lives up to its responsibilities to clean up the environment, hold the polluters responsible, make sure businesses and communities in the Gulf are compensated and the people of the region get back on their feet.
