Norton Warns Of Royal Wedding Viruses

STUDIO CITY (KCAL) — If you have been searching the web for information about the upcoming royal wedding, chances are your computer could have become infected with a virus.

Helen Malani, Norton's Cybercrime Education Expert, visited the KCAL9 studios Wednesday to talk about the viruses that have been associated with the searches.

"Royal Wedding" was the top hijacked search term last week. Experts warn that cyberscammers have infected countless computers after users conducted simple web searches regarding Friday's nuptials.

Tips

o Be careful what you click on – Watch out for emails or links that promise "leaked" footage, offer "scandalous" pictures or advertise deals too good to be true. Cybercriminals use sensational and shocking headlines to get you to click on links that could infect your computer

o Stick to trusted sites and sources - While any site could potentially be risky, it's best to avoid clicking on sites you've never heard of that show up in your search results. Stick to the official royal wedding website and do not click on links found in emails from unknown sources

o Use trusted security software and make sure you're keeping it up-to-date – Free tools like Norton Safe Web Lite and Norton Safe Web for Facebook – can identify risky sites before users click on them in search results and on their Facebook news feeds, before you click on them
