Northridge Kidnapping Pleads Not Guilty To 37 Felony Charges
SAN FERNANDO (CBSLA.com) — The main suspect in the kidnapping of a 10-year-old Northridge girl pleaded not guilty Thursday morning to 37 felony charges.
Tobias Summers, 32, faces one count each of kidnapping a victim under 14, kidnapping to commit another crime, first-degree burglary with a person present and 34 sex-related counts.
Summers, and his accomplice, 29-year-old Daniel Martinez, were wanted in the kidnapping and sexual assault of a 10-year-old Northridge girl on March 27. She was found about 12 hours later wandering around a San Fernando Valley Starbucks parking lot barefoot.
Martinez was arrested on April 1 and has pleaded not guilty to charges.
Summers was arrested on April 23 in Mexico after a nearly month-long manhunt after a tip led authorities to Tecate, Mexico where he was working at a rehab facility.
Summers was captured without incident and positively identified by a Superman tattoo on his chest, one of several known tattoos described by police.
He has been held on $19 million bail since his arrest.
Summers, a convicted felon, was released from custody in July 2012 due to prison overcrowding.
His next court appearance has been scheduled for May 22.
