Hundreds Of Pot Plants Allegedly Found Following North Hills House Fire
NORTH HILLS (CBSLA.com) — Police say they have found hundreds of marijuana plants inside a North Hills home that caught fire Saturday.
The non-injury fire broke out in the front room of the home on the 9100 block of Monogram Avenue just after midnight.
"After knocking down most of the bulk of the fire inside the house, firefighters attacking the fire discovered some type of marijuana growing operation," said LAFD Batt. Chief Mark Saxelby.
The plants allegedly found inside the home were in various stages of development, CBS2's Joy Benedict reported.
Investigators say they also found hydroponic equipment which is typically used for growing plants without the use of dirt.
"We're looking about close to 300 plants that are still intact and maybe a couple hundred that might have burned in this front room here," said LAPD Sgt. John Kielbasa.
Benedict says one person was detained at the scene. Officers awaiting a search warrant remained at the scene.
