Non-Profit Group Offers Help And Hope To Single Moms Fighting Life-Threatening Illness
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A single mother receives a terrifying cancer diagnosis and doesn't know which way to turn.
But help is available, from an organization dedicated to helping women, and most often specifically single moms, who are facing an uncertain future.
On the KCAL9 News at 10 p.m., reporter Rachel Kim introduced us to just such a woman.
Kim Liebe, an Oak Park single mom, is a stage 4 lung cancer patient with a four-year-old son named Christian.
According to Independent Seed, California has 1 million single-mother homes, about 8 percent of all households, and moreover, more than a third of them live at or below the poverty line.
You can only imagine what illness will do to an already-fragile income or bank account.
The public can help this mom in need. "A Day in the Park for Kim's Cause" family festival on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at Oak Canyon Park in Oak Park.
The festival, scheduled from 11 am to 3 pm will feature a children's fashion show sponsored by Gotta Have It children's boutique in Westlake Village, face painting, games, bounce house, food, fun, music and silent auction. The event is free and open to the public but donations are accepted.
