Nominate SoCal's Best Environmental Education Teacher
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Know a teacher inspiring your child to live sustainably? Here's your chance to nominate him or her for an honor for a chance to win up to $5,000 in cash.
The Wyland Foundation and Toyota, along with AES Corporation and KCAL/KCBS, is looking for Southern California teachers who are encouraging students to work toward a sustainable, healthy planet.
During April, Earth Month, 30 teachers – one each day – will be recognized as "Earth Month Heroes" and each will receive a $500 cash prize for their classroom. These winning teachers will also be recognized at a special Earth Month Kickoff Event on March 31by environmental artist, Wyland.
The grand prize winner will win a $5,000 to support their environmental education efforts and will be honored at a public reception at the Los Angeles County Science Fair on April 16.
The winning teachers will be chosen based on their ability to foster interest in environmental studies in any academic subject and their ability to influence their students in a positive manner, spark interest in environmental awareness and persevere in spite of growing cuts to school budgets.
The deadline for submissions is March 15. Nomination forms and complete rules are available at www.wylandfoundation.org.
