No. 17 UCLA Bruins Defeat No. 18 USC For 1st Time Since 2006, Win Pac-12 South
PASADENA (CBSLA.com)- Johnathan Franklin ran for 171 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns to lead the No. 17 UCLA Bruins past the No. 18 USC Trojans 38-28.
It's UCLA's first win over USC since 2006 and they've clinched a spot for the Pac-12 championship game on November 30th.
UCLA red-shirt freshman quarterback Brett Hundley threw for 234 yards with a touchdown and ran for two more on the ground.
"This is a different year," said Hundley to CBS2's Kristine Leahy. "This is UCLA Football 2012. We're in the Pac-12 Championship game, baby!"
Eric Kendrick made two crucial plays for the Bruins. First, he blocked a punt, then made a fourth-quarter interception to help the Bruins(9-2, 6-2 Pac-12) hang on after going up 24-0.
USC quarterback Matt Barkley, who came back for his senior season, left the game during the fourth quarter after UCLA linebacker Anthony Barr took him down for a sack, injuring his right shoulder (throwing arm). According to USC beat writer Scott Wolf, Barkley has a separated shoulder.
Barkley threw for 301 yards and three touchdowns, but was intercepted twice in USC's third loss in four games.
UCLA's all-time rushing leader, Franklin, now has 18 career 100-yard rushing games.
UCLA will have to wait another week to decide their title game opponent after No. 1 Oregon lost to No. 14 Stanford in overtime. If UCLA beats Stanford and Oregon beats Oregon State, it will be UCLA-Oregon at Oregon. If Stanford wins, the Bruins will play Stanford in back-to-back weeks.
