Newport-Mesa Trustees Fire Superintendent Convicted Of Misappropriating Public Funds
COSTA MESA (AP) — An Orange County school district's trustees have decided to fire a superintendent convicted of misappropriating public funds while he headed the Beverly Hills Unified School District.
Trustees for the Newport-Mesa Unified School District held a hastily called meeting Tuesday afternoon and voted unanimously to dismiss Superintendent Jeffrey Hubbard. The termination will be effective Monday.
Hubbard was convicted this week of two counts of misappropriation of public funds. He was accused of giving a former female employee more than $20,000 in gifts and increasing her car allowance without board approval when he worked in Beverly Hills.
Hubbard faces up to five years in state prison. He is expected to be sentenced Feb. 23.
