Newport Beach Woman Sentenced To Life For Convincing Lover To Murder Her Wealthy Boyfriend

NEWPORT BEACH (CBS) — Nanette Ann Packard McNeal has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after being convicted, along with her lover, of murdering her wealthy live-in boyfriend.

"The destructive trail of deceit is astounding. The fact that you, Nanette, destroyed so many lives, including my dad's, along the way is vile. Your web of lies has caught up to you, finally," the victim's daughter, Kim McLaughlin, said in court Friday.

A jury found the 46-year-old guilty in January for helping plan the murder of Bill McLaughlin, 55, in order to loot his savings and collect on a $1 million life insurance policy.

Deputy District Attorney Matt Murphy built his case against McNeal on circumstantial evidence that included her actions before and after the killing, noting she embezzled hundreds of thousands of dollars from McLaughlin.

McNeal's lover,  45-year-old Eric Andrew Naposki, was found guilty in July of gunning down McLaughlin on Dec. 15, 1994. The former NFL linebacker also faces a life term without parole.

Naposki was not present in court Friday to hear the victim's family speak.

"He was a gigantic coward. He's always been a coward but he refused to come out his cell today to listen to what the family had to say, and it exemplified him to a tee," said senior district attorney Matt Murphy.
