Newport Beach Man, 74, Missing After Sailboat Washes Ashore
LAGUNA BEACH (CBS) — Detectives are investigating the disappearance of a 74-year-old man as a homicide after his boat washed ashore in Orange County Wednesday.
Newport Beach resident Andrew Szaz was last seen around noon Tuesday in Dana Point Harbor working on his 30-foot sail boat, "Babe," Orange County Sheriff's officials said.
He was reported missing by his wife around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to authorities.
His damaged boat washed ashore on Main Beach in Laguna around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to officials. They believe the mast broke when the boat ran aground.
Detectives did not say why they were investigation Szaz' death as a homicide.
Harbor patrol and the U.S. Coast Guard have launched a search for him between Dana Point and Newport Beach.
