Newly-Crowned UFC Champion Holly Holm Sits Down With Pat Harvey To Discuss Beating Ronda Rousey
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Holly Holm is still trying to wrap her head around her historic UFC win over undefeated champion Ronda Rousey.
"I know it's a lot to take in," Holm told CBS2's Pat Harvey.
"It is a little demanding right now, but that's okay. It's a constant reminder that I won! That's the reason we are doing it," Holm added.
Harvey then asked Holm about the visualization process before the fight.
"I could visualize winning and I would get so emotional over it. There were days that I had bad days at the gym, and I thought if I perform the way I did today, that it's not going to get me a win," Holm said.
"And then there were days that I would feel so good about training and I was just doing so well, I would say, 'You know what, I cannot be stopped right now. This is destiny'," she added.
Most people across the country hadn't heard Holly Holm's name before her victory over the mighty Ronda Rousey.
Born in New Mexico as the daughter of a preacher, Holm always gravitated towards sports.
A relative newcomer to mixed martial arts, Holm has been competing in the sport since 2011.
"All of these other sports is a season, and by the end of the season I would be sick of practice," Holm said.
"I would be sick of going to practice and they are one a day, this is multiple times a day, this is year-round, and it never stops, you are constantly going, but I still love it," she added.
Harvey then asked Holm, "For other little girls who possibly want to go into fighting like you, what advice would you give them?"
"I say if you want to go into fighting, go in for all of the right reasons," Holm said.
"You walk into a gym, there is a high amount of respect for each other. Train hard, but one of the biggest things if you want to make this a career, be patient," she added.
It's that patience that has paid off for Holm, who headed into a high-profile fight as an unknown underdog, only to leave a champion.
"You know I always have respect for everybody I get in there with, it takes a lot to get in there. And it is just two people chasing their dreams. You never want permanent damage for anybody," Holm said.
There have already been reports of a rematch between Holm and Rousey, and the newly-crowned champion wasn't shying away from confirming them.
"If they set it up, I am game for it. I always feel like anybody that has their belt taken away has every right to have their rematch to try and avenge their loss," Holm said.
