New Homeless Shelter Opens To Replace Fire-Gutted San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission
NORTHRIDGE (CBSLA.com) — More than a year after a fire destroyed the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission, which temporarily housed homeless families, Los Angeles city leaders welcomed families Monday to a new 90-bed facility taking its place.
Home Again is a new facility that will house homeless families and help them get back on their feet.
A May 3, 2014 fire at the Rescue Mission's emergency family shelter in North Hollywood also destroyed a fleet of vehicles and a warehouse of clothing and food donations.
Los Angeles City Council member Paul Krekorian, whose district includes the shelter, helped raise funds to rebuild the shelter. He said the Rescue Mission "has come so far in this past year since a tragic fire took their North Hollywood shelter."
Due to the generosity from members of the community, the Rescue Mission is "now ready to open a bigger shelter that will continue their incredible work serving the Valley's neediest families," Krekorian said.
