New Grocery Store In Compton Offers Organic Options At Discounted Prices
COMPTON (CBSLA.com) — A new grocery store opened in Compton and has residents excited.
"You usually have to drive a little bit further out of your community just to find what you need and come back," said Fredricka Recasner, who is happy to find fresh, organic fruits and vegetables at the Grocery Outlet.
She was one of the first shoppers to visit the store on West Rosecrans Boulevard.
"I love the prices too and I can always find something different and unique. I'm more a vegetarian so I can find a lot of great vegetarian choices here as well," she said.
The store opened Thursday morning in the same building that once housed a Fresh and Easy.
"So far, so good," said Paulette Postell, another shopper. "It's welcomed to the neighborhood."
Lito Guerroro and his wife, Liza, own the Compton store, which he says offers a variety of name-brand items at very low prices.
The store is one in only five grocery stores in Compton to serve nearly 100,000 people.
"It's critical for our residents," said Compton Mayor Aja Brown. "Compton has traditionally been under-served and so having basic necessities like grocery stores and basic retailers that provide goods and services to our residents is critical."
In addition to fresh groceries, the store also provides 25 new jobs to the community.
There are more than 240 Grocery Outlet stores around the country with 19 scheduled to open in Los Angeles and Orange counties.
