New CHP Program Aims To Combat Aggressive Driving In The Inland Empire

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — The California Highway Patrol launched a new program Thursday aimed at combating aggressive driving.

The "Reduce Aggressive Driving Incidents and Tactically Enforce Speed" (RADIATES) campaign is a federally-funded grant program that will focus on anti-speeding measures within the Inland Empire.

According to the CHP, the majority of collisions in California that end in death or injury begin with a speeding or aggressive driver.

"The primary goal with the RADIATES grant is to reduce the number of fatal and injury traffic collisions within the Inland Empire," CHP Inland Division Chief Michael Champion said. "More specifically, I-15, I-10, and SR-210 where speed was the primary cause in 3,192 crashes, which resulted in 11 deaths and 1,685 injured in 2010."

RADIATES will continue through Sept. 30, 2013.
