The Port of Los Angeles is not just a cruise ship destination, but also a top location for educational family fun. Rich in history, the port of Los Angeles is home to many historic museums, breath taking views, and culturally diverse dining.
Enjoy a scenic ride on a vintage red car trolly along the shores of San Pedro Harbor. The trolly runs along a 1.5 mile trolly line for a fun transportation experience. The trolly car will be closed from May 7th until June 28th. The trolly car runs Friday through Sunday from noon until 9:30pm. The cost is $1 per day that includes unlimited daily rides.
Explore the nautical history of the Los Angeles Harbor, at one of the largest maritime museums in California. The museum is over 75,000 square feet, and is home to 200 ship and boat models. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10am to 5pm, and Sundays from 12 until 5pm. The museum is closed on Mondays, and holidays. The cost of admission is $3 for adults, $1 for seniors, and children are free. Donations are always welcome at the museum.
The S.S. Lane Victory has served our country in World War II, The Korean War, Vietnam War, and various peace missions. The restored cargo ship that is Nationally recognized as a historic landmark, is now a living museum right in the Los Angeles Harbor. The ship is open for visitors daily from 9am until 3pm. This historic fishing village has been a favorite to locals since 1963. There are various gift shops, fish markets and restaurants along this 15-acre village. The village is the perfect backdrop for memorable photos of the harbor. Visitors can purchase fish from the various fish markets, and have the fish prepared immediately to enjoy eating! The village is also home to the historic statue modeled after the famous Gorton's Fisherman.
Phase one of this unique waterfront art-based location will be opening on the July 4th weekend. In the historic 1940 Naval warehouses, the team behind the Bergamont Station Arts Center are restoring them to be one of the largest local craft destinations in Los Angeles. It is planned to be open Friday through Sunday, with free admission. Phase one of the two phase project is projected to house 100 artists, with 60 already confirmed. Applications are currently being accepted by local artists for $500 a month, with a six month lease.
The Cabrillo Marine Aquarium has been committed to educating the community on local marine life for the past 60 years. The museum has educational fun for the entire family. The admission is free, with a suggested donation of $5 per adult and $1 per child. The aquarium is open Tuesday through Friday from noon until 5pm, and Saturday through Sunday from 10am until 5pm. The aquarium is closed on Mondays, and holidays.
