Neighbor Rescues Elderly Residents From Burning Home
ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — A trash can fire at an Anaheim home being used as a board-and-care facility for the elderly triggered an investigation of whether the business is licensed and its clients were unsupervised at the time of the blaze, a police lieutenant said.
The blaze ignited in a large trash can just after 3 p.m. in the 2800 block of East Dutch Avenue, Anaheim police Lt. Bob Dunn said.
A neighbor saw flames and knew the house on fire was home to several elderly residents, many of whom rely on wheelchairs, said Dunn.
The good Samaritan rushed in Friday and helped get three seniors safely out of the residence, according to Dunn.
The home reportedly was being used as a board-and-care facility, Dunn said. Three of the five residents were at home at the time the fire broke out, he said.
Investigators are looking into whether the business is properly licensed.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
