Natural Gas Leak Shuts Down 22 Freeway At 405
GARDEN GROVE (CBS) — Authorities say a natural gas leak has prompted the closure of the eastbound Garden Grove (22) Freeway at the San Diego (405) junction and part of Valley View Street.
A gas line broke during construction in the area, California Highway Patrol Officer Gabe Montoya said, prompting the closure at about 12:20 p.m.
Drivers were being taken off the freeway and routed around the problem, he said. Emergency work is expected to last until at least 7 p.m.
Valley View Street remains closed in both directions from Tiffany Avenue to Old Bolsa Road.
Also closed are:
- south 405 connector to east 22
- Garden Grove Boulevard from the south 405 off-ramp to the Valley View Street intersection
- west 22 Valley View Street onramp
- south 405 Bolsa Chica Road offramp
Update: By 10 p.m. all lane of the 405 were re-opened. According to CHP, crews were still working on the leak but it was no longer affecting traffic on the 405.
