NASCAR Brings Out Banner Crowds In Fontana
FONTANA (CBSLA.com) — One of the sports' biggest crowds in years attended a NASCAR race in Fontana Sunday afternoon.
CBS2's Bobby Kaple said the real winner was probably the city of Fontana. A whole weekend of events brought out a throng of fans, spectators and Fontana residents, he says, "but it really brought out a ton of money."
And the finish of the race didn't disappoint: 27-year-old Kyle Busch waving the checkered flag and taking a bow at the Auto Club 400.
Race fan Dustin Crawford said, "We got here early today, around 8 a.m. And you could tell there were so many more people here (than usual.) It was already packed. I guess that's a good thing for NASCAR."
"Fan or not, this is a great experience," said another fan.
Inside the lobby of a nearby Sheraton in Cucamonga, Kaple reported seeing a NASCAR cardboard cutout in the hotel lobby. The hotel sold out for the weekend.
At the Cucamonga Brewery Company, waitress Karishma Singh said she saw "probably double the clientele. It's good for us."
Back at the track, visitors were treated to one of the most exciting race-endings in recent memory The leaders wrecked in the final turn, allowing Kyle Busch -- who seemed to come out of nowhere -- to claim victory.
And after the race was over two drivers, including Joey Logano -- who was involved in the wreck -- got into a physical scuffle with each other.
