Mystery Looms As To Who Won $120M Jackpot In Riverside
RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — The winner of the $120 million lottery ticket in Tuesday's multi-state Mega Millions drawing remains a mystery a day later.
The kicker? The lucky owner of the golden ticket, which was sold at a Riverside 7-Eleven, can't claim the prize anonymously.
Lottery officials said the person must now decide whether to accept an estimated $92.1 million or receive 26 yearly payments of about $4.6 million each before taxes.
The owner of the 7-11 who sold the ticket will get a whopping $600,000.
Former UC Riverside student Alejandra Gutierrez said she was surprised the winner was from the area.
"It was surprising to see that someone around here won the lottery. We don't know who, but that's really cool," she said.
UCR student Javier Aceves said he wonders if one of his classmates won the money.
Regardless, he knows exactly what he would do with the cash.
"I probably would donate some of the money to the school and to do more research. Promote UCR. And why not...have a football team?" he said.
The winner numbers were: 5, 11, 20, 33, 36 with mega number 11.
