Suspect Killed In Deputy-Involved Shooting In Murrieta

MURRIETA (CBSLA) - A suspect who led sheriff's deputies on a pursuit Thursday is dead following a shootout with authorities in Murrieta.

The incident began after deputies were called out to a domestic disturbance around 10 a.m. in the 23000 block of Jefferson Avenue, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

When they arrived, the suspect fled the scene in a white pickup truck and a chase ensued, authorities said.

Multiple attempts to pull over the truck failed, including the use of spike strips, according to officials.

An armored police vehicle eventually stopped the truck across from Gateway Church of the Nazarene.

"Once they came up this road here on Jefferson, the Murrieta Police Department Bearcat was used to stop the vehicle," said sheriff's spokesperson
Tamrin Olden.

When deputies approached the vehicle, the suspect fired several shots and struck some nearby police vehicles, at which point a deputy-involved shooting occurred, Olden said.

No deputies were hurt in the chase and ensuing shootout.

Several law enforcement agencies including California Highway Patrol were on scene for the investigation near Murrieta Hot Springs Road between Margarita and
Winchester roads. Residents were urged to avoid the area.

No other injuries were reported.
