Mudslide Concerns Force Closure Of PCH In Dana Point
DANA POINT (CBS) — After several days of on-and-off rainfall, authorities say they're forced to close a portion of Pacific Coast Highway for fear of possible landslides.
PCH will be closed in both directions between Palisades Drive and Camino Capistrano for five to seven days as crews work to stabilize the hillside, according to Dana Point Public Works Director Brad Fowler.
One small slide has already occurred, according to the Orange County Register. The slide happened in the backyard of a blufftop residence about 400 feet south of Palisades at about 12:15 a.m. Thursday. The slide was cleaned up quickly, but engineers determined that a 75 to 100 foot expanse of the slope is unstable.
No homes are in danger, Fowler said.
