Motorcyclist In Custody After High Speed Chase Spanning Multiple Freeways
SAN BERNADINO (CBSLA.com) — A motorcyclist who reached speeds of 90 mph on multiple freeways Wednesday has been taken into custody in Arleta following a pursuit.
The chase began when California Highway Patrol officers tried to pull the motorcyclist over for speeding around 3:30 p.m. in Rancho Cucamonga, a spokesperson for the agency said.
CHP and San Bernadino Police continued the pursuit westbound on the 210 and 134 Freeways through Eagle Rock, Glendale and Burbank with officers in patrol cars, on motorcycles and in helicopters.
Aerial footage obtained by KCAL9 shows the driver punching passing vehicles and turning around to make obscene gestures toward police as he weaved through lanes. There are also reports of the driver hitting cars with his helmet and doing tricks on the motorcycle at high speeds.
The pursuit suspect continued northbound on the 170 Freeway through North Hollywood when he went off the motorway into a construction zone and got off the bike. He appeared to be in pain. The suspect was quickly approached by officers who placed him in handcuffs.
The identity of the driver is not yet known.
Police have not yet identified the owner of the vehicle, which did not have a visible license plate.
