Motor Home Driver Runs Over Bicyclist In Fatal Moreno Valley Crash
MORENO VALLEY (CBS) — A 64-year-old motor home driver ran over and killed a bicyclist in Moreno Valley Friday, during what authorities suspect may have been a seizure-induced blackout.
Joseph Gerald Edgerson of Moreno Valley, struck the bicycle rider -- whose name was not released -- around 10:50 a.m. on Cactus Avenue, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
Edgerson was going eastbound when he plowed into the victim, who was headed in the same direction, said sheriff's Sgt. Jacqueline Horton.
After the collision, Edgerson continued a short distance and then crashed into a power pole near Lasselle Street, Horton said.
Edgerson was listed in critical condition at Riverside County Regional Medical Center, Horton said.
The rider was rushed to nearby Riverside County Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
"Upon contact, Mr. Edgerson was disoriented and unable to speak coherently," Horton said. "It is unclear if Mr. Edgerson was aware his vehicle struck the bicyclist and may have suffered a seizure during the collision."
Edgerson's three grandchildren were also riding in the motor home, but were not injured, according to Horton.
