Mother: Son Was Possibly Stealing Pot Plants When Suspect Fatally Shot Him In Redlands
REDLANDS (CBSLA.com) — A 34-year-old man was in custody Thursday after a teenager was shot and killed in Redlands.
Erlindo Rodriguez Jr. was arrested Wednesday night shortly after the body of 17-year-old Marcus Green was found around 10 p.m. in an alley in the 1000 block of Post Street, according to the Redlands Fire Department.
Green was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
KCAL9's Tom Wait spoke with Jessie Gonzales who is coping with the loss of her son.
Gonzalez said she believes her son was stealing marijuana plants from the suspect's home when he got angry and shot the Redlands East Valley High School student.
"My son was in my friend's neighbor's backyard clipping his plants," said Gonzalez. "I guess he went back there and saw my son. He shot him and killed him over his weed plants."
Neighbors said that crime is an ongoing problem in the area, however, Gonzalez described her son as a teenager that avoided trouble. She said she will remember him as a good kid.
"He liked to hang out with his friends and look for girls to talk to like a regular teenager," said .
Rodriguez was transported to the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino where he was being held without bail.
Anyone with additional information was asked to contact Redlands Police Dispatch at (909)798-7681.
