Mother Of Man Killed In Apparent Case Of Road Rage Speaks Out

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — For the first time, the mother of a man who died in an apparent case of road rage is speaking out.

On August 7, at around 5:08 a.m., LAPD Northeast Area patrol officers responded to a shooting call in Silver Lake.

There, they found 20-year-old Juan David Loma Vaszquez seated in his car, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He had been driving two co-workers home when they said they were the victims of road rage. The shooter was in a green SUV.

Maria Vazquez Ramirez spoke exclusively Thursday evening to KCAL9's Suraya Fadel.

Ramirez, speaking in Spanish, says her pain is deep. She says there is a void in her life and family. Ramirez doesn't understand why anyone would want to kill her son. She never imagined losing him.

One of four children, Juan David juggled two jobs to help his family back in Mexico. He was never in any kind of trouble.

Officials say he did nothing wrong and was shot for no reason.

Vazquez was taken to the hospital and placed on life support. A week after the shooting, he was taken off life support and pronounced dead.

He was taken off life support on his mother's birthday.
