Mother Of 8 Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver In Anaheim
ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — Officials are searching for a hit-and-run driver who killed a mother of eight in Anaheim Saturday night.
The collision was the latest in a string of deadly accidents involving pedestrians this weekend.
Daniella Palacios, 44, was struck around 9:10 p.m. on Magnolia Avenue, just south of La Palma, while she was either walking her bicycle or riding it while trying to cross the street, officials told CBS2/KCAL9's Joy Benedict.
Witnesses said the suspect was driving a white SUV and sped away from the scene.
Relatives said they can't believe the driver didn't stop to check on Palacios. They're hoping someone comes forward with information.
"It's horrible because you're not facing the crime you have committed and you're not giving closure, some kind of closure to the family," said Elena Garcia, one of Palacios' 11 grandchildren, about the driver responsible.
Palacios' family have started a make-shift memorial at the crash site. They're planning a fundraiser to pay for funeral expenses.
Several homeless members of the community approached Benedict saying Palacios would cook them lunch and bring it to the park.
