Mother Of 3, Victim In Salon Rampage Laid To Rest
HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBS) — Family and friends gathered in Huntington Beach Saturday to remember a mother of three, one of eight people slain in the massacre inside a Seal Beach salon on Oct. 12.
Christy Lynn Wilson, 47, was one of eight people killed inside Salon Meritage. Authorities say gunman Scott Dekraai went into the establishment to target his ex-wife with whom he was engaged in a bitter custody battle.
But as KCAL9's Ann Sterling reports, the 1200 people who gathered today to remember Wilson didn't care to discuss how she died.
They wanted to focus, instead, on how she lived.
In a touching, and often times emotional service at First Christian Church in Huntington Beach, Wilson was remembered as a special person in all aspects of her life: mother, wife, grandmother, daughter, sister, friend.
Said her husband, "My world, and our world, will never be the same without her infectious spirit. Nor should it be."
Through songs and pictures, as well as often funny anecdotes, Sterling reports the congregants kept the focus on their loved one and how much she meant to them, individually and collectively.
Her husband said what he hoped most, "is that Christy will be remembered for how she lived. Unconditionally, with inner and outer beauty...grace, charisma, laughter."
Wilson worked at the salon, as a nail artist, for more than 15 years.
Her husband reminded the assembly that along with his wife, seven of her friends and co-workers were also slain. "Do not forget those eight incredible lives that were lost that day" he implored, while choking back tears. "Don't ever forget them. Ever."
