Most-Wanted Fugitive Nabbed At LAX After Fleeing Georgia And Being Deported From Mexico
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A most wanted fugitive -- being sought by officials in Georgia for a series of sex crimes against a minor -- was nabbed at Los Angeles International Airport Friday after being kicked out of Mexico.
Authorities said 45-year-old Kenneth Dustin Grant was arrested by LAPD assigned to the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force.
The Forsyth County Superior Court issued an arrest warrant for Grant on September 20, 2010 after he failed to appear in court for trial.
Grant is facing up to 23 felony counts, including aggravated child molestation, aggravated sexual battery, child molestation, and sexual exploitation of children.
In an effort to avoid prosecution Grant cut off this electronic ankle monitor and fled the state.
Based on a variety of tips, the United States Marshals learned Grant had escaped to Mexico. The Task Force began working with Mexican authorities to locate Grant. On July 10, 2014, Mexican authorities -- along with the U.S. Marshals -- took Grant into custody in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Grant was expelled from Mexico for being illegal and deported back to the United States. Grant was accompanied by Mexican immigration and U.S. Marshals personnel. Upon arrival at LAX, Grant was detained by U.S. Customs, Border Protection personal and LAPD officers assigned to the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force.
On July 11, 2014, Grant was booked at the Los Angeles Metropolitan Detention Center for a no-bail fugitive felony warrant.
Grant is currently housed at the Los Angeles County jail waiting to be extradited back to Georgia, where he will face sexual assault charges.
