'Most Depressing' Starbucks Reopens With A New Look
HIGHLAND PARK (CBSLA.com) — A Starbucks in Highland Park dubbed the coffee chain's "most depressing" location is reopening Wednesday with a new look.
There previously was no way for customers to enter the building, located at 6240 York Boulevard, and orders had to be placed at a walk-up window or in the drive-thru. People complained the standing line often became an uncomfortable arrangement.
"When you order, there is no way the line can go straight. The line is just two people standing there and then maybe like a curvature," a nearby resident explained. "There was no inside. It's just an outside and there's a restroom-area."
"You pay a certain amount of money, you know, for the coffee and you want that whole Starbucks experience of sitting inside a café," she said.
A user on Yelp who goes by Adam B. posted in July that his excitement at hearing there was a Starbucks opening in the Gravanza area was dashed when he saw the design: "Parking your car, riding a bicycle or walking up to the store brings you to a window with shutters and what appears to be bulletproof glass. The workers all wear headsets, there is no visible display case for snacks or baked goods. No menus are visible from the front order window as of today but maybe something is in the works."
The Starbucks closed for renovations earlier this year and reopened Wednesday.
